Fun with Dad Jokes

Image
I was browsing Javascript projects that are available online so I can convert them to  Blazor.  It is fun to try to do everything they did in JavaScript in Blazor.  I came across this application.   This project was created just for pure enjoyment.   There are a couple of Blazor changes that were needed, but overall it is fairly straightforward and a ton of fun to implement. The implementation was to make an API call to get a Dad joke from a Dad Joke service, yes they have those.  Then get a random image to display, then display the image on each request. The project was inspired by Brad at Traversy Media .  He has a ton of great videos and courses on web development.  He does a good job of explaining the details as well.  You should check him out. Applications Objective The application is an entertaining project that just felt good to build.  It will randomly display a dad joke with a random image. It is that simple. Blazor Pa...

What I learned this week

Image
One of the great things I like about the software development profession is that you can never learn everything and there's always something new to learn.  I started thinking that I needed to keep track of the new things I learned.  I decided I'm going to start posting every time I have three or four new things that I have learned.  I normally have a goal trying to learn at least one new thing per day, some days it's hard some days it's easy to get more than a few.  I have multiple sources that I use to learn new fun and exciting things from social media, blogs, virtual conferences, YouTube and news do company events.  For this week I have learned how to make the background of an image transparent, how to get a color palette from an image, and that there is a difference in Blazor JSON serialization.  Transparent Image To be able to make an image with a transparent background you need a software package that will remove the background color.  Ther...

Blazor - Displaying an Image

I wanted to be able to display an image file within a Blazor page.  During my research I realized that there is very little difference between displaying an image in Blazor as compared to displaying it in a HTML page.  So, I decided to add a couple of other features to my application.   The features I have added are:   1. Get a list of files on the server   2. Display at list in a Blazor page   3. Provide a UI effect to zoom in on the image   I will be using the Blazor Server configuration for this application.  We can do this with the Client-side configuration, but you need an API to access the server files.  I have created a folder under WWWROOT called DsiplayImages where I have placed several images I will be working with.  I have created a service that will access the image files from the server.  In addition, I have created a model for the file properties I a need.   ...
